Overview
Take a step back over a thousand years in history on this full-day boat trip to Birka – Sweden's first city and one of Scandinavia's most important Viking Age sites. Founded around 750 AD on the island of Björkö in Lake Mälaren, Birka flourished as a major trading hub for nearly two centuries. Today it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With Stromma, you board M/S Mälar Victoria for a scenic two-hour cruise from central Stockholm to Björkö. A knowledgeable guide leads a live tour in English and Swedish across ancient fields and archaeological excavations – a walk of about 1–1.5 km. You can also explore the reconstructed Viking village, visit the Birka Museum, enjoy Viking-inspired food at Restaurant Särimner or Café Eldrimner, or soak up the island's beautiful nature. Perfect for history enthusiasts, families, or anyone curious about Sweden's Viking past. Book your Birka day trip with Stromma!
